چکیده

A new grid generation method for the computation of shallow water ̄ows is presented. The procedure, based on the use of cut cells on a Cartesian background mesh, can cope with shallow water problems having arbitrarily complex geometries. Although the method provides a fully boundary-®tted capability, no mesh generation in the conventional sense is required. Solid regions are simply cut out of a background Cartesian mesh with their boundaries represented by di€erent types of cut cell. For the ̄ow calculations a multi-dimensional high resolution upwind ®nite volume scheme is used in conjunction with an ecient approximate Riemann solver to deal with complex shallow water problems involving steady or unsteady hydraulic discontinuities. The method is validated for several test problems involving unsteady shallow water ̄ows. Ó 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Shallow Flow Simulation on Dynamically Adaptive Cut-cell Quadtree Grids

A computationally efficient, high-resolution numerical model of shallow flow hydrodynamics is described, based on boundary-fitted adaptive quadtree grids. The numerical model solves the two-dimensional non-linear shallow water equations by means of an explicit second-order MUSCL-Hancock Godunov-type finite volume scheme. Interface fluxes are evaluated using an HLLC approximate Riemann solver. T...

A Cartesian Grid Approach with Hierarchical Re nement for Compressible Flows

Many numerical studies of ows that involve complex geometries are limited by the di culties in generating suitable grids. We present a Cartesian boundary scheme for two-dimensional, compressible ows which is unfettered by the need to generate a computational grid and so it may be used, routinely, even for the most awkward of geometries. In essence, an arbitrary-shaped body is allowed to blank o...
